ISLE Activities - Research

In 1994, ISLE sponsored a project “Architectural Models under Artificial Sky” at the Illumination Engineering Section of the Electrical Engineering Department of Jadavpur University at Calcutta. The project was completed in October 1997. A research Scholar was selected for this, who was simultaneously given a teaching assignment on Illumination Engineering and has been awarded a Ph.D. for his thesis on the Research Project at Jadavpur University

ISLE is closely involved in the International Daylight Measurement Programe (IDMP) launched in 1991. This programme is based at the Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) Roorkee. It was decided in 1994 to jointly fund the programme by the Department of Science and Technology, and others interested in energy aspects and alternative energy sources like the Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources (MNES), Energy Management Center (EMC), Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and ISLE
In 2001, ISLE sponsored a project ‘Assessment and Design of Illumination System with respect to Open Cast Iron Ore Mine Project’ at the Karnataka Regional Engineering College, Surathkal. This research project is scheduled to be completed in 2004
In 2006 ISLE sponsored a rural community development green light initiative launched by MIT Manipal as part of a research project entitled ‘Studies on the Energy Security in Tribal Villages of Udipi District, Karnataka’.
Also in 2006, ISLE sponsored a research project at Jadavpur University on ‘New Road Lighting Design Approach for Developing Countries’.
